During the past year just closed forty-seven residents of this county have come to their death under circumstances which seemed to demand an investigation and in all these cases an inquest was held either by Coroner Poet himself or by a Justice of the Peace duty authorized to act in his stead.
Following is a complete list of this inquests thus held during the year 1890 in this county. ADAMS, Samuel September 26, killed on railroad near “Y“ Switches. ARABIAN, Woman January 6, killed by cars at Tyrone. Inquest held by J. L. Holmes, Justice of Peace. ASHELMAN, Collins B. August 26, at Williamsburg of heart failure. AURANDT, C. N. January 14, killed at Twenty- fourth street crossing. BARASSO, Stefano September 18, killed on railroad, near Birmingham. BENDER, Geo. B. McClellan July 20, killed on Hollidaysburg Branch road in the city. BOYD, W. C. May 21, killed on the railroad. BRENNAN, Joseph January 28, killed in Altoona yard. BROKUP, John August 24, died of natural causes, near Birmingham. CLARK, A. L. March 25, killed on the railroad. CUNNINGHAM, J. B. December 25, killed on the Branch road. DONAHUE, James August 9, killed on railroad at Bellwood. DONATHAN, Mrs. Minnie July 23, Heart Failure. FASIC, G. W. February 10, killed in Elizabeth Furnace. FOUST, A. F. February 10, killed in the Altoona yard. FREIDLEY, W. J. March 16, killed on the railroad in this city. GOODMAN, D. L. December 3, killed by engine near Blair Furnace. GOUDY, James A. September 13, killed on railroad at Bellwood. HARNISH, Lloyd K. January 13, killed by accident while out hunting near Williamsburg. Inquest held by Squire G. W. Reed. HARPTER, W. H. February 3, died in Altoona hospital from wounds received by a gun in his own hands. HICKEY, Clement J. February 19, found dead in Fairview. HODEN, W. S. August 25, died at East Freedom, of heart failure. Inquest held by Squire G. B. Young. HORNER, Philip September 27, killed on railroad near Kittanning Point. HUMES, Lewis December 16, killed on railroad near Barrie. KING, Martin September 21, fell from bridge near Tyrone and killed. LEWIS, Mrs. Jane E. December 13, Tyrone Township, thought to be murdered. LINDSEY, Jesse M. October 3, in Altoona, Heart failure. LINGENFELTER, David March 10, found dead in Freedom township. Inquest held by Squire G. B. Young. MAPES, Calvin June 16, killed at Tyrone. Inquest held by Squire W. F. Taylor. MATSON, J. November 22, a Finlander, killed on railroad near Tyrone. McKEE, Carlton C. November 16, struck by a train at Stiffler’s Station. PRESSELL, James August 19, killed on the Bell’s Gap railroad. RITTMAN, Daniel April 25, Suicide. ROGAN, Wm. June 9, killed by the cars near Altoona. SNOWBERGER, Edward July 18, killed by passenger train. SPANBAKE, Augustus December 15, heart failure. STACY, G. C. December 5, killed at the east end of Gallitzin Tunnel. STEWART, Hugh October 13, killed by his nephew with a baseball bat. SUDER, C. H. November 9, death caused by suicide, in Duncansville. SULLIVAN, Pat August 10, killed on railroad at Tyrone. THOMPSON, Roswelt February 20, found dead in his bed at Gaysport. TOPPER, G. H. November 29, killed near Twenty-fourth Street. UNKNOWN, Male child March 14, in this city. UNKNOWN, Male child March 17, in this city. VAZZANO, Antonio November 3, killed on railroad near Birmingham. WEIDMAN, Trangott November 6, Logan township, Suicide. WHITE, Frank January 3, in this city. Inquest held by Coroner Glenn. WINGARD, John July 6, in this city.
