1893 Coroner's List

Altoona Tribune, Morning January 1, 1894

Sudden or Violent Deaths Investigated During the Year 1893

While in the aggregate there was a large number of sudden or violent deaths in this county during the year 1893 there were but twenty-nine inquests held and the last of these is not yet completed.  When we say there was this number held we speak of those conducted by Coroner Poet himself, for several were held by Squire Reed at Yellow Springs, at least one by Squire W. F. Taylor at Tyrone and one by Squire Holmes, also of Tyrone, of which we have no records.

During the year 1893 there were fifty-six sudden or violent deaths within the county in which number of cases no inquests were held because the coroner was satisfied there was no doubt as to cause of deaths, and the placing of costs upon the county was therefore unnecessary.  The record is as follows.
